Discover the world's most far-flung continent with an Australia rail pass. Catch a Tilt train and head for the Great Barrier Reef, journey to the Outback's Red Centre aboard the famous Ghan, or cross the Nullarbor Plain to the Indian Ocean aboard the Indian Pacific. With an Australia rail pass in hand, you'll be helping to preserve Australia's unique environment while saving time and money. Rail pass holders bypass station queues... and a pass can often cost less than a single round-trip fare!
Depending on the rail pass you choose, you may find yourself traveling on one, two or all three of Australia's regional railroads. Great Southern Rail links big southeast cities with Adelaide, Darwin and Perth. CountryLink serves New South Wales and connects Sydney with Melbourne, Canberra and Brisbane. Queensland Rail links Brisbane with Cairns and inland points.
With eight different rail pass choices you're good to go almost anywhere. Three passes cover one railway each: Rail Explorer Pass is for Great Southern Rail's long-distance trains. CountryLink's Backtracker Rail Pass covers New South Wales. Queensland Rail's Explorer Pass is for use in Queensland.
Want more? "Aus" passes combine the services of two railways into a single pass. You can explore New South Wales and Queensland with an Aus Reef and Beach Pass. Go from New South Wales to Darwin and Perth with a Trans Aus Pass. Or make your way from Queensland's Great Barrier Reef to the Western Bush with an Aus Reef and Outback Pass.
Want it all? Then the Ausrail Pass is your choice. It combines the services of all three Australian railways into a single nationwide rail pass option.
Looking for something a little different? The East Coast Discovery Pass is unique. Its holders are entitled to travel in a single direction, up or down the East Coast, between Melbourne and Cairns.
Australia rail passes are available for three or six months of unlimited Economy or Red class travel (East Coast Discovery Pass available for six months only). Children, ages 3 and under, travel free. Rail passes are also valid for travel on selected connecting motor coaches and upgrades to First Class, Business Class or Red Premium Service (seats or sleeping berths) are usually available for an additional fee.
