USA's crowded Northeast Corridor is the showcase for Amtrak's high-speed Acela service. Hourly trains race between DC and NYC in under three hours including intermediate stops at Newark, Philadelphia and Baltimore; frequent trips between Penn Station and Boston run 3.5 hours and call on New Haven and Providence along the way. Metroliners have been largely phased out and those few remaining are incorporated into the Acela timetable.
