Train Ride Events | Mother's Day UK

This year, Mum's the word on the first Sunday in April, when tourist trains across the UK will venture out on Mother's Day trips to honor Great Britain's Mums and Grans.

Mothering Sunday -- no connection to the US Mother's Day -- was originally intended as a day to worship at the nearest cathedral or "Mother Church." Servant children, given the day off to worship with their families, would gather poseys of wild flowers for their mothers. Today, it has become a day to honor mothers across the United Kingdom.

Many scenic and heritage railways schedule Mothering Sunday train ride events. Events range from unique day trips to Sunday luncheon excursions.
