VIA's far-reaching service stretches from the Atlantic to the Pacific; and from the 49th parallel to the sub-Arctic Territories. "Enterprise" trains ply VIA's bustling "Corridor," a stretch that includes Toronto, Ottawa, Niagara Falls, Montreal and Quebec City. Alternatively, VIA's transcontinental "Canadian" crosses Prairie fields and Rocky mounts on its Toronto-Vancouver run. Among other services are "The Malahat" along Vancouver Island, "Skeena" between Jasper and Prince Rupert; "Hudson Bay" to northern Manitoba; and "Chaleur"/"Ocean" overnight connections from Montreal to Gaspe and the Atlantic Maritimes.

CN - BC Rail Shuttle
Seton Portage, BC
This last vestige of the former BC Rail passenger network is an alltogether isolated remnant of trackage dedicated to providing a lifeline for the Seton Lake Indian Band. CN runs the trains while the Indians head up passenger bookings, ticket sales, revenue collection, marketing and customer service. Daily round-trips link Seton Portage to the regional center of Lillooet. Scheduling of a second Friday-only service to D'Arcy depends on a minimum of four reservations.

Algoma Central Railway
Sault Ste. Marie, ON
Rail remains king in the Algoma wilderness, where otherwise inaccessible settlements and outposts rely on the ACR as a vital supply line and for year-round access to the outside world. From its Sault Ste. Marie terminus on Lake Superior the Algoma Central Railway wends northward, through Agawa Canyon, crossing boreal forests and Canada's mountainous Shield on its 296 miles (476 km) run to Hearst, Ontario. Overnight return trips depart Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, year-round; also Wednesdays in Summer
Ontario Northland -- Toronto
Cochrane
For over a century, ON's Northlander trains have departed Toronto for the day's journey to Cochrane, a popular snowmobiler destination in Ontario's rugged north. From Cochrane: year-round Little Bear flag-stop freight/passenger service (complete with specially fitted canoe car) and seasonal Polar Bear Express trains drive 300 km (186 mi) further, to frontier settlements at James Bay. At Cochrane, the railway also operates complementary motorcoach service and the Station Inn, a smallish but entirely up-to-date hotel/restaurant popular with back country visitors.
