VIA's far-reaching service stretches from the Atlantic to the Pacific; and from the 49th parallel to the sub-Arctic Territories. Frequent trains ply VIA's bustling Windsor-Québec Corridor, a stretch that includes Toronto, Ottawa, Niagara Falls and Montréal. Alternatively, VIA Rail's Toronto-Vancouver "Canadian" crosses Prairie fields and Rocky Mountain peaks on its transcontinental run. Other services include the Victoria-Courtenay route along Vancouver Island's coast; Jasper-Prince Rupert across the northern reaches of the Canadian Rockies; Winnipeg-Churchill linking Manitoba's capital to the "The Polar Bear Capital" on Hudson Bay; and the Montréal-Halifax Ocean connecting French Canada with Atlantic Canada's maritime coast.

Otherwise inaccessible settlements and outposts rely on this Lake Superior-based railway for year-round access to the outside world. Scenic highlights along its its 296 miles/476 km run to Hearst, Ontario include Agawa Canyon, boreal forests and Canada's mountainous Shield.

A trio of First Nations (Uashat Mak Mani-Utenam, Kawawachikamach and Matimekush­ Lac John) jointly operate this 356 mi/588 km line. Twice weekly service travels via Emeril Junction, Labrador.
