Passenger Train Service | Western Asia

Passenger service connects the capital, Tbilisi, with the Black Sea ports of Poti and Batumi.

Iran's modern rail service is popular and affordable. Lines radiate from Tehran, west to Tabriz and east to Mashhad. Additional services travel via Qom: to Arak, Ahvaz and the Persian Gulf; and to Kashan, Yazd and Kerman. Trans-Asia Express trains link Tehran and Tabriz with Istanbul and Damascus. Limited access is available to/from Pakistan, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.

The country's modern railway continues to expand. Routes extend from Nahariya to Ben Gurion Airport and Beer Sheva via Haifa and Tel Aviv. Jerusalem connections can be made in Tel Aviv. Several secondary and commuter services are also maintained. The railway closes down between Friday afternoon and Saturday evening. There are currently no international connections.

International service links the Kingdom's capital and Mafraq with Damascus.

The Arab republic's trains are affordable -- and gaining in popularity. Main line service links Damascus, Aleppo, Deir ez-Zur, Al-Hasakah and Al-Qamishli. A second line runs along the Mediterranean coast. International services connect with Tehran, Istanbul and Amman.
