Asian intercity passenger service includes JR East's Shinkansen, Japan's famous bullet train.

KCR -- Kowloon Canton Railway Hong Kong Hong Kong's historic link to China traverses Kowloon and the New Territories. It is comprised of long-standing East Rail lines; new Light Rail service in the far West; and recently-added Mainland commuter services from Hung Hon to Guangchou and onto Shanghai and Beijing. New West Rail domestic service is currently under construction; East Rail extensions are under development.

MOR - Ministry of Railways Beijing China's vast railway network transports one-quarter of the world's rail passengers. Ongoing expansion is making even China's most remote regions accessible by train. Recently completed projects include the world's highest altitude railway, between Quinzhou and Tibet, the world's first maglev (magnetic levitation) service, between Shanghai and Pudong airport; high-speed (125-mph/200-kmh) service between Shenzhen and Guangzhou; and express trains link Kowloon (Hong Kong) with Guangzhou, Beijing, and Shanghai. Preferred service levels are indicated by a letter prefix, "T" (Tekuai express), "K" (Kuaisu fast), "Y" (Luyou tourist) and "L" (Linshi temporary). International services connect with Almaty (Kazakhstan), Hanoi, Moscow, Pyongyang and Ulaan Baatar. Selected destinations: Beijing, Guangzhou, Guilin, Hangzhou, Kunming, Lahasa, Nanjing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Suzhou, Tianjin, Uruumqi and Wuxi. Central Railway Mumbai CR's lines spread through the suburbs of Mumbai and on across Maharashtra; its trackage leading pilgrims and tourists to the Taj Mahal, the birth place of Lord Krishna and the famous Hill Resorts.
Northern Railway New Delhi Sprawling across the largest geographic area of any Indian railway, Northern serves the eight states of Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh and the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
South Central Railway Hyderabad Broad- and narrow gauge lines fan out from Hyderabad across Andhra Pradesh and through Northern Karnataka into Goa and parts of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
South Eastern Railways Kolkota Called "Flagship" and "Bluechip"... India's largest railway operates seven divisions in six States including Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, West Bengal, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
Southern Railway Chennai SR's seven divisions -- including booming Bangalore and Chennai -- spider the Indian Peninsula's southern states including Tamilnadu, Kerala, Pondicherry, much of Karnataka and a bit of Andhra Pradesh.
Western Railway Mumbai Western Railway serves the entire Gujarat, a large part of Rajasthan, some portion of Madhya Pradesh and small parts of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. The railway operates India's two superfast, fully air-conditioned, deluxe trains: The Rajdhani Express links New Delhi with a number of major Indian cities; the Shatabdi Express covers the major route between Mumbai Central and Delhi.

JR Central (JR Tokai) - Central Japan Railway Nagoya The Tokyo-Yokohama megaplex and the Chubu heartland to the west -- home to Mount Fuji and the Japan Alps -- are woven together by the intercity mainlines of the Central Japan Railway, also known as JR Tokai. The railway's Tokaido Shinkansen bullet train streams between the capital and Shin-Osaka. See JR East for Shinkansen bullet train service linking Tokyo with Akita, Hachinohe, Nagano, Nigata and Shinjo. Selected destinations: Nagoya, Hakone. Shin-Fuji, Shin-Yokohama and Tokyo.
